Sometime in the very near future, the Louisiana State Senate will vote on two bills that address road safety. HB1137 supports Complete Streets policies that encourage local, regional, and state planning agencies to create laws requiring new roads to include space for travel by foot, bicycle, and other non-automobile forms of transportation. Complete Streets include infrastructure like sidewalks, raised medians, safe spaces for bicycle riders, and better bus-stop placements that encourage physical activity and improved safety for everyone on the road. Additionally, a second bill, HB1125, seeks to create a specialty license plate with the “Share the Road” tagline to promote bicyclist and motorist safety. Find out how to contact your state senator through this link and ask him or her to support HB1137 (Complete Streets) and HB 1125 (Share the Road license plates).
